Greek lore spoke of Pegasus being born from the head of his mother, the Gorgon Medusa, when she was beheaded. Athena then assisted a young warrior named Bellerophon. He captured Pegasus and rode to battle and defeated monsters. As Bellerophon attempted to ride Pegasus to the heavens, he was thrown and Pegasus rose to become a constellation and servant of Zeus.
